What is pollution and what are its types? Contamination of soil, water, or atmosphere by harmful substances of discharge, undesirable change in the air, water, and land is called pollution and the substances that cause pollution are called pollutants. The main cause of pollution is human activities. There are different types of pollution and these are: 1 Air Pollution. supplies us oxygen which is essential for our bodies to live. Air is made up of 99.9% of nitrogen, oxygen, water vapors and t gases. Air pollution is the release of air with gases, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and chemical vapors produced by hydrocarbons. Therefore, we can say that contamination of the soil is caused by solid and liquid residues and contaminated water. Soil pollution can result in desertification; destruction of the vegetal cover, etc. 4 Noise Pollution. Noise pollution includes roadway noise, aircraft noise, industrial noise as well as high-intensity sonar. Sonorous pollution is the production of sounds, noises, or vibrations. Noise pollution can cause physical and mental ailments such as irritability, depression, heart problems, etc. 5 Visual Pollution. Visual pollution refers to the presence of overhead power lines, billboards, and open storage of trash or municipal solid waste. It is the degradation of natural or artificial environment and it is visually annoying 6 Radioactive Pollution. Radioactive contamination, resulting from 20th century activities in atomic physics, such as nuclear power generation and nuclear weapons research, manufacture and deployment. Exposure to radioa pollution can cause damage to live tissue, cause leukemia, tumors. Hair loss, diminution of life's expectation, genetic disorders. lesions. etc. iveindustry and motor vehicles. The exhaust from burning fuels in wutomobiles, homes, and industries is a major source of pollution in the air. Some authorities believe that even the burning of wood and charcoal can release significant quantities of soot into the air. There is indoor pollution as well which needs to be considered. Indoor pollution is inside our homes, offices, and schools. Some of these pollutants can be created by indoor activities such as smoking and cooking. Our exposure to harmful indoor pollutants can be serious. 2. Water pollution. Water covers 71% of the ecarth's surface and makes up 65% of our bodies. Everyone wants to drink clean water and if water becomes polluted, it can become a threat to our health and the survival of the fish in it and the wildlife that it depends on. The used water is called wastewater, or sewage. If it is not treated before being discharged into the waterways serious pollution is the result. Water pollution also occurs when rain water runsoff from urban and industrial areas and from agricultural land and mining operations and makes its way back to rivers, lakes, and oceans and into the ground 3 Soil Pollution. Soil is a basic natural resource. Soil pollution The most contaminated ones are hydrocarbons, heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides and chlorinated.
